I think it's acacia! A friend was given a load off offcuts as firewood from a woodyard. Fortunately he knows I like turing, and invited me to take a selection of pieces. It turns a bit like the African walnut, with a high risk of chatter. I kept a fairly flat form to show the grain as much as possible, and it went back to the friend as a wee thank you.
