Large Oak Platter

This piece of oak was I think an offcut from some American white oak that Dad made a coffee table from for my brother and his wife. It was glued to a piece of plywood so that the faceplate screws didn't go in too far, and I turned a fairly shallow platter with a simple foot that conceals a 3" dovetail to take an epanding chuck. After I had cleaned off the work damage and most of the dark staining that comes from age I decided just to make a flat top, e.g. to take a doily for tray bakes or buns. This one went to some friends as an anniversary present.
