I treated myself to a large piece of spalted beech from The Woodyard in Templepatrick. It sat for ages under the bench until I felt my turning was good enough to cope with such an expensive piece of wood. I ended up with a fairly classical shape, and managed not to lose too much of the spalting pattern - it's all to easy to find the best bits have ended up going to the chickens as shavings for bedding.
