A nice piece of maple was flawed due to a large knot. These days I would have filled it with resin or just left it natural, but being young I decided to drill it out and fill the hole with a piece of sycamore. This left a gap, so I chiselled out a slot and put a small scrap of ebony in from the offcuts box. The maple has some nice figuring, but otherwise whatever I finished it with didn't really bring out the grain and has yellowed with age, which is a pity.
