The council cut down a mature Monterey cypress in Craigantlet around 1990. They are usually felled a few feet from the ground, and later a crew comes out to deal with the stump. A friend saw the crew and asked them where they were taking it, "To the dump" they said. "Well, can you dump it in my garage?" he asked. It saved them a trip! The pot in the title photo is a hollow form which is around 2 to 3 mm thick and 200 mm in diameter. The title photo was take shortly after the bowl was turned, and is still very pale. The video was taken recently, and the wood has darkened to a deep golden hue. The wood was still pretty fresh, so easy to turn but gave off a lot of "vapour" which gave me a really sore throat. As this piece is from near the base the grain has been compressed as the tree sways, which gives the lovely, rippled effect.
