I helped to cut up a poplar tree in a friend's garden, and now have quite a stack of wood slowly seasoning. Poplar is a fairly plain wood with an uninteresting grain, so the challenge is to find pieces of wood that have some interest, such as from near or actually containing a branch junction, or with some spalting from where fungi have started to attack the wood.
