It's hard to obtain large pieces of yew, so I glued two pieces together from a log I inherited from my father, which was actually a tree I had cut down in my uncle's garden in 1987. Yew is pretty much characterised by shakes (drying cracks), so I didn't want to take this too thin and risk destruction. The end result is a classical shape with a pleasing feel and heft. Yew polishes to a natural shine due to the oils in it, but I have finished this with a mixture of boiled linseed oil and beeswax to seal the grain and stop dirt entering.
Yew is not recommended as being food safe. Please do not use this as a salad bowl or to serve popcorn or crisps.
